The mini team of Shelley,Tom and the two contractors Mario and Juliano moved even further up the mountain to expand a house and raise the roof by three feet. ( Team Rises to New Heights…get it?) The house , home to a family of seven, had been damaged 10 years ago in a hurricane and you had to bend over to walk inside. On site arrival the house was in disarray and one of the four young girls was playing with a dead baby chicken pulling its feathers out while her 14-year-old developmentally challenged brother looked on. ( Note: Colleen was able to deliver one of the brightly colored tactile toys to this little
and the sisters got Alice’s slippers.)
With the dad’s help the old laminar roof was removed and the 2 and a half day project began. Some of the branches of a lemon tree growing in the middle of the house had to be removed. One of the contractors swung a machete but missed the branch and it slipped out of his hand and sailed past Shelley’s head missing by either 2 inches or two feet depending upon which version of the story you hear.
Beams were brought in, some new laminar, and construction began. The dad worked very hard along with the team. When it was done the roof had been raised three feet, the chicken coop expanded and a new toilet dug. Great job Tom and Shelley!
