Bags, Balls and Bad News

Bad news for the Rotary Guatemala team as our president Tom Andrews may miss the trip as a result of breaking a  leg  while skating in Victoria.  The group met to load their bags  with each member assigned to take an extra suitcase loaded with items for the needy in San Antonio.

The loss of one person means one less bag to transport all the generous gifts from our Rotary friends in Chemainus. The Cowichan Valley Soccer Association has donated 20 soccer balls and six sets of uniforms that will be welcomed with enthusiasm.    To help overcome our bag shortage problem “someone” came up with the brilliant idea of wearing the deflated soccer balls as hats while  on the airplane.

The pictures show the successful trial for our hats.  On the actual

airplane trip the balls will be secured with chin straps made from “Red Green” duct tape.

Spicing Up Your Fundraising

Rotary food

Shirley Graham recently hosted an “Epicure” party and donated the hostess rewards as cash for her

Rotary club’s Guatemala project. An afternoon of cooking, eating and drinking (Epicure tea of course!)

made for fun, conversation and an opportunity to meet new friends and share the details of this year’s

project plans. Thanks so much to Shirley and all who “dipped in” to help the ladies in San Antonio

Palopo.

Donations Much Appreciated

Thanks to your many donations and cash from our fundraising events we will be able to make significant changes to the lives of many of our Guatemala friends.  Donations are still welcome through  the ICO website if you follow the instructions on our donation blog page.  If you do this you will get a tax receipt and you can be assured all money goes to our project.

If you want to make a more personal donation send your donation to one of our team members along with a picture of you ,your children or grandchildren and we will print the picture and give it to the recipient. We will then try to get a picture of the person who received your donation and send it back to you. We might buy a pair of shoes for $10 or a bag of corn or food supplements for a family. We will not be able to give a tax receipt for this but it would be fun.

These could be a personal gift from you.
