Hit The Ground Running

Hola

We finally arrived after a few glitches safe and sound in San Antonio Palopo on Monday evening. After a good night’s sleep, we set off to check out our project sites this morning.

First stop was to a family neighbourhood in need of a home for a mother and three children. The first photo is of the planning committee discussing the layout of the home. The second photo is of the neighbor!
The next project involves building a home for Francesca and her son Freddy.
Next we visited Jorge’s grandmother’s home who needs a window installed and a new door for Jorge’s place. This afternoon Ken and I built the new door and window shutters for installation tomorrow.
Kathleen spent time with Jacqueline planning health support activities.
We closed out out first day enjoying the sunset over Lake Atitlan. It felt good to be back and so welcomed.
Buenos noches

2017 Smaller Team, Larger Tasks

2017 Guatemala team

2017 Guatemala team

Packed and ready to go, Tom, Ken and Kathleen head off on January 29 for important work in Guatemala. Thanks to a generous donation to our Guatemala project by the late Pat Kay and donations by our members and friends of Rotary, the team will contribute to a major water supply project in San Antonio Palopo as well as continue the nutritional supplement program and aid to the schools and other projects you will learn about in this blog. Ken and Tom will be working with local contractors once again to build and repair homes. Kathleen will bring her extensive nursing and midwifery skills to the community.  You may also want to follow atitlanaction.wordpress.com to see what other Vancouver Island Clubs are doing in the same area.  Tell your friends to follow our blog.
